This past week threw us all a curve ball. We have heard in the past that snow was coming, and before, we were lucky to have it stick long enough to get a picture. But last week, yea we got snow, ice, and it all stuck around for awhile. This led to what we initially thought would be "rolling" power outages becoming a multi-day affair for some of our communities that we serve. The lack of electricity, led to lack of heat, which aided in water pipes freezing, and eventually bursting. So what we thought would be a "rolling" inconvenience became a life-altering dilemma for many of our families.
Thankfully, we have amazing partners that helped us assist the families we care for and love so much. 5 Loaves Food Pantry partnered with Napoli's Italian Wylie Restaurant to provide salad, lasagna, and garlic rolls for our La Familia De Esperanza community. Later, in the week, we were able to provide bottled water for our families, as well as, additional food boxes for those that were still without power.
Along with the food and water supplies La Familia De Esperanza was blessed to have many others within our community offer their homes to families that did not have electricity or water.
This past week was unexpected and trying; however, it showed that La Familia De Esperanza is a strong community that looks out for one another. We appreciate our partners and how they stepped in to provide for our beautiful La Familia families, and we are grateful for each of our families being kept safe throughout this trying week.
